Blogger Wanted!

There seems to be a massive proliferation of law bloggers lately, but as far as I know, no one is yet blogging on ethics or professional responsibility. I would so love to see a good ethics blog. So if you're knowledgeable or passionate about the topic and have the yen to blog, step up to the plate!

Actually, I used to be on the Journal of Legal Ethics, but there haven't been many interesting developments (outside of Sarbanes-Oxley's reporting requirements) since the Clinton Administration. That, incidentally, isn't a political statement. We just had a lot of good issues come out of the impeachment.

There has to be more than that! Are you telling me there aren't any good issues swirling around technology in practice? For me, ethics also includes professional responsibility, which includes the state of the profession, the ability of the law to keep pace in a business world, &c. I don't think ethics consists merely of what lawyers can do wrong. I wouldn't expect a blog on the subject to spew 10 pieces a day, but it might be a good place to collect some interesting perspectives and commentary (especially since legal ethics sources aren't very well integrated into electronic resources as any other area of law).

Actually, the web is a pretty good place to look for ethics stuff, at least in New York. Two county bar associations publish advisory opinions: the Nassau County bar posts its opinions here: http://www.nassaubar.org/ethic_opinions_archive.cfm

The New York State Bar Association posts its opinions here: http://www.nysba.org/Content/NavigationMenu/Attorney_Resources/Ethics_Opinions/Ethics_Opinions.htm

An entire blog about professional responsibility would be pretty preachy, don't you think? I post on decisions of interest, from time to time (I posted on a related issue today, in fact), but just running down the abstracts is pretty deadly.

The real problem with research in this area is that the Code of Professional Responsibility is poorly organized, poorly indexed, and poorly understood. I don't know what can be done about that, but a blog ain't it.
