Grades really do matter. Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher requires all hires, including lateral partners, to rank near the top of their class in law school. They recently turned down a lateral hire with $7 million in portable book because he didn't make the grade. Ouch.
You're pushing some of my buttons today...
Another case of "follow the rules, and d^mn the consequences".
Nothing aginst either school, but is the eighth-highest grade at CCNY really better than the fifteenth-highest at Harvard?
This happens in too many areas: rules are guidelines (and CYA copouts), not absolutes.
But then, writing this it occurs to me this may be a case of CYA: "brilliant, and good book, but half our existing people would walk if this SOB came on board".
