My laptop was stolen yesterday. I feel like vomiting. Repeatedly.
That utterly sucks. Let us know if there's anything we can do...
Posted by: Bryant on February 20, 2003 09:06 AMAnd I thought I was having a bad computer experience. My symapthies.
Posted by: Hose Monster on February 20, 2003 03:08 PMOuch. Hope it comes home soon, and that you can exact appropriate vengeance on the thief...
Posted by: Andrew on February 20, 2003 09:42 PMAnyone interested in starting a po'-law-student's-laptop-replacement-fund?
Posted by: Rick on February 20, 2003 09:44 PMOuch!
My worst nightmare, especially on the nights when I go out for drinks after class, lugging laptop and books....
What happened? I hope nothing sensitive was on it...
Posted by: greg on February 20, 2003 11:52 PMYeow. So sorry. Ditto Greg. Your classmates should help you with outlines, notes, etc., I hope...
Posted by: moira on February 21, 2003 02:18 AMAt least you backed up! Right?
(HUGE fear of mine, having the ol' Sony pilfered. That's a big part of why I won't upgrade. I couldn't stand losing something with significant eBay resale value.)
Posted by: JCA on February 21, 2003 03:00 PMAlice: give us a paypal address so we can throw you a dollar or two. No, you'll prolly not get near the replacement cost, but money is money, right? (What was that Danny DeVito line about money in that movie, you know the one... Was it: "Everybody wants money. That's why they call it money!" ?) Oh, and promise you'll buy a new 12" Powerbook and we'll give more. ;-)
Posted by: ambimb on February 23, 2003 11:17 PMIt's all part of your evil plan to discover my true identity. I won't have it! :) You can, however, send me e-condolence-cards. Because that's funny.
A friend is strenuously advocating the Powerbook. I say it's way too heavy and doesn't even have built-in wireless (quelle horreur!). The deceased weighed 3.4 pounds.
Posted by: Alice on February 24, 2003 12:06 AMPowerbook for sure -- the 12" G4 *does* have wireless built in, sort of. The antennae are built in, and the dedicated slot of the wirelss card is there, but you have to pay $80-100 extra for the card. All the powerbooks (and the ibook) are like that. Also, the 12" is only 4.6 lbs. -- and that includes a 40-60GB drive *and* an optical drive (your choice of CD-R, DVD, or *superdrive,* which reads/writes both cds and dvds). I'm guessing your 3.4 pounder had no optical drive? Anyway, this mac fan is now shutting up. The damned things cost way too much cash!
